What does a notary do?
In Côte d'Ivoire, the notary plays a central role in every property transaction. They are the public officer who gives legal deeds their authenticated status: sale, gift, inheritance, mortgage. Without a notarial deed, no property transaction has final legal effect, and the titre foncier (land title) cannot be transferred at the Livre Foncier (the land register) in Abidjan.
